Press brake maintenance training schedule

Most press brake downtime is prevented, not repaired. This track is the in-house maintenance schedule KECMT recommends so owners can do the basics and call service for the deep work.

Most press brake downtime is prevented, not repaired. A small in-house maintenance routine, done consistently, catches the failures that otherwise arrive as a stopped machine on a busy day. This track is the schedule KECMT recommends for owners who want to service their own machines for the basics and call us for the deep work.

Daily and weekly

  • Check hydraulic oil level and look for new weeps at cylinders and fittings.
  • Wipe and inspect tooling; damaged punches and dies cause bad bends and marking.
  • Verify the light curtain, E-stop and door interlocks function at start of shift.
  • Clean the backgauge guides and the bed of offcuts and swarf.

Monthly and quarterly

Change or clean the hydraulic return filter on schedule, check the oil for colour and clarity (cloudy or dark oil is a warning), re-torque major frame and tooling bolts, and check ram parallelism and bend accuracy with a coupon so drift is caught early. Thecrowning guide explains how bed deflection shows up as angle error along the length.

Hydraulic and electrical basics

Keep the tank topped with the specified fluid, watch the pump sound and temperature, and do not let the cooler fins clog. Electrically, keep the cabinet clean and dry, confirm the protective bonding is intact, and never work live. Deeper hydraulic or electrical repair should be scheduled with KECMT service — both for safety and to protect the warranty.

Lubrication and calibration

Linear guides, ball-screws and sliding ways need the specified lubricant on a schedule, not when they squeak. Re-calibrate the backgauge and ram position reference after any mechanical work or a hard fault, because lost reference is a common cause of repeat alarms. A calibration log turns intermittent problems into traced ones.

Questions we get asked

What maintenance can my own team do?

Daily and weekly checks (oil level, leaks, tooling, safety-function test, cleaning) and lubrication should be done in-house, and the maintenance training track is built to enable exactly that. Deeper hydraulic or electrical repair is best scheduled with KECMT service for safety and warranty protection.

How often should I change the hydraulic filter?

On the schedule in your manual, typically a return-filter service at monthly or quarterly intervals depending on duty. Check the oil clarity and colour at each service; cloudy or dark oil is an early warning of contamination or overheating before a failure.

Why does the backgauge keep losing its reference?

Losing reference after a power cut or mechanical work is normal and just needs re-homing, but repeated loss points to an encoder, drive or mechanical issue. Re-calibrate the position reference after any mechanical work, because a lost reference is a common cause of repeat alarms.

Does in-house maintenance affect my warranty?

Routine checks, lubrication and filter service do not; in fact they protect the machine. Warranty questions arise when unauthorised deep hydraulic or electrical repairs cause a fault, so keep those for KECMT service and log the routine work you do.
